Helping auditors move faster
Scope & Contribution
I led the end-to-end redesign of the auditing platform at Rocket over three months. I facilitated research and meeting with users weekly to iterate and refine the designs. Working closely with product, engineering, and one other designer, we set out to create a more transparent and collaborative auditing platform that uses AI to automate repetitive tasks.
Problem
The Rocket fulfillment team audits thousands of loans every week, but the tools auditors relied on were redundant and not built to scale. Auditors spent their days juggling scattered documents and multiple systems, making audits more time-consuming and increasing the risk of missed compliance issues.
"I'm usually jumping between different 4 or 5 different tools for every single audit. Things are always slipping through the cracks."

Shadowing users made it clear that we needed to consolidate tools
When we first started research, it was unclear how we could make auditing more efficient. I flew to Detroit to shadow the auditing team, which quickly revealed there was a big opportunity to consolidate the 6 tools they were using. I designed a new dashboard that could (actually) serve as a single source of truth for loans. It gave auditors and team leads a quick way to see what was happening across their pipeline. I also brought tools like notes and status history directly into the auditing experience, making it easier to track progress and collaborate with other team members.

Nothing slipping through the cracks
I further consolidated the auditing platform by bringing in tools like document management and issue tracking into one place. By reducing the need to switch multiple systems, the team was able to stay on top of compliance issues and resolve problems within loans much quicker.
Leading a service blueprint workshop to identify opportunities for automation
As we continued to do research, the auditing workflow became increasingly complex. I got buy-in to lead a service blueprint worksop with product, engineering, and auditing team leads. With a more wholistic picture, this helped us separate the unnecessary complexity from the necessary complexity and identify opportunities for automation. From there, I redesigned the audit experience with AI at the center. Partnering closely with engineering, we built a tool that answers routine questions automatically.

Takeaways and next steps
These improvements helped auditors resolve issues faster and complete more audits each day. Meeting with users every week and doing a service blueprint workshop was the difference maker for this project. It allowed us to stay in continuous discovery, break through ambiguity, and keep improving the experience as we went. Building on that momentum, the team is continuing to explore ways to bring more automation into the platform and automate more of the audit process end to end.
